Pas de Deux Photo directors Beth and Ron McKinney, and Creative Directors Jessica Garrett, Alexa Culclasure, and Gwynn Loud provide an update in this video on the 2023 Conference on July 21-23..

They talk about the schedule, including plans for a pre-conference shoot on July 20, an evening post-conference shoot on July 23, and a rain machine workshop at the Ron McKinney Photography studio on July 24 in Crystal Lake in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

They also discuss some changes to the conference, including how the individual photo sessions will be managed, dancer safety, and some of the really cool locations for photo shoots.

You know how it is. You're just not feeling it. You've scheduled an early evening golden hour shoot but there is a torrential downpour earlier in the day. One of your two dancers can't make it, and someone you don't know and who hasn't danced before with this partner, is recruited.

There were no assistants to help

The location is going to be muddy from the rain, and there's probably going to be mosquitoes.

But as Susan Gietka considered cancelling the session, her dancer model had an answer for everything. Her parents would assist, even!

So they went ahead with it, and the results were golden!

Look below at Susan's images from the one session. The first image is the winner of the On Location Portrait category, and the rest were the rest of the images that won the Series category.
